Saw that one coming. I cringe everytime I see an Apple security commercial. It's like spitting in the hackers face.

Within months Logic Pro 8 came out and they simplified the GUI to be like GarageBand (and oh how all the "Pros" did moan...but only for awhile) and cut the price from $999 to $499. I jumped on it and never looked back.
Logic is the perfect comparison. Audio guys had the exact same reaction when Logic 8 and 9 first appeared - it seemed to look more like GB so they assumed it was a toy with features stripped out. In fact, it removed nothing and added quite a few features valuable to pros (and in later versions fixed a LOT of bugs). What's the old clich about judging a book by its cover?

I do. But I'm sure someone will tell us that we are idiots for thinking so and why it is sooo obvious why they don't include them. My guess is they will use loads of acronyms ;)
Well the GBT Standard Methodology of Computer Hardware End-User Inclusions (GBT-SMCHEUI, for short) indicates that any machine weighing over 9.732 lbs. Must not, under the authority of the GBT-SMCHEUI, include the hardware in question, under penalty of law. Duh.
:D
Acually, I'm a bit surprised myself. I mean, they're not going to gain a huge amount of profit by charging people for it. Oh well, my guess in Rev. B it'll be included.

The 2.0 model also includes 4MB L2 cache instead of "just" 2MB L2 cache... remember the days when we used to measure L2 in increments of 256KB?
Yes, it drives people to buy the 2.0 model and YES it drives away the others that are not prepared to spend this extra 200$....

This is a sad, ignorant, white trash comment.
I would agree. I know someone who is a manager there, and they actually treat there employees well, and happen to be one of the ONLY companies expanding in this economy. I might have a cushy desk job now - but I worked in retail before, and won't say anything negative about Walmart.
It doesn't hurt that it's where I also picked up my iPad 2 64g WiFi.... :)
On a side note - the more places that sell iPad the better. Like or not, Apple has went "mainstream consumer" and wants to beat out the "personal computer" with their tablet. They cannot do that only stocking it in Apple stores where people cannot "impulse buy". Steve Jobs said they lost the "PC War", but he didn't tell us about the sneak attack with the iPad. Sure I love my MBP and use it for development and design, but i use the iPad for EVERYTHING else.

Wow, not getting updates to your OS for half a decade is now an advantage is it?
And Windows users accuse Mac owners of being delusional!
There are updates, just free. Also, it's nice to be able to have to fiddle with the OS only once every half a decade. Updates don't matter that much, since if you're a mac user and using windows for gaming(and not job work), the windows interface doesn't matter at all. You'd be getting Vista in anticipation of a future laptop with a DX10 graphics card.

It's fascinating how quickly the Democrat party has turned into the party of war... trying to justify it legally and morally at every corner. It's almost as if their anti-war stance for the past 10 years was a complete farce, and was more anti-Bush than anti-war, anti-intervention. Now that Obama is at the helm, core philosophy no longer matters, consistent
Yea, nothing to do with the fact that one of our wars was sold to the people under a complete and total (known) lie. That couldn't be anyone's basis for anger and resentment towards the war, it had to be a personal grudge against Bush.
Seriously 5P, do you have any idea what goes on in reality? How many Dems were out there rallying against the Afghan war while Bush was in office (now that public opinion has flipped everyone wants to get out)? That was the "good" war, remember? Saying that the Dems are somehow anti-war is to ignore the history of this nation. Both parties are far more than willing to march to the drum beat of war when it is "in the nation's interest".
Look at the Clinton doctrine for christs sake! It clearly states that it is the position of the USA that it can take unilateral military action anywhere in the world if US interests (or our allies, which pretty much leaves anything open) are threatened. It even specifically mentions using this clause to secure energy access.
Talk all the BS rhetoric you want, but you clearly don't understand the policies of this country are and are little more than a pawn (most of us as well) in the carefully constructed Dems vs. GOP sideshow distraction.
Can you point out any war in history that meets your ivory tower qualifications?
All of them.
The "interests" talking point is so incredibly open ended that literally any action can be considered in relation to it.
Notice how no one ever presses Hillary or Obama (or any politician for that matter) specifically what "interests" they are talking about? The term is used specifically because of the wide open weasel room it provides, and this is well understood by the press who more than willfully participate in the charades.

Not only did 3D without glasses suck on the 3DS, it isn't even possible on an iPad. Just think about it: The iPad is always advertised as a very orientation independent device. But turning it from landscape to portrait would immediately kill the 3D effect. Unless Apple found some new "magic" 3D technology, this rumor is just complete bs in every way.

I wonder if someone is going to sue Best Buy as a result of this ad? The ad does mention that there is a limited quantity and no-rain checks. I think they probably should have placed in small text to call ahead for availability.
The fact that it appears to be ploy to get people to come in and give them money to reserve one is not going to sit well with a lot of people. I personally hope it backfires on them and makes people not want to go to their store. Who knows? Maybe this will lead them down the same path that happened to Circuit City.

I'm definitely staying away from this update for now. Something about it actually just kind of scares me. It helps that my week 21 MacBook has only had the mooing issue and nothing else (so far). That issue has gone away with SMC Firmware Update 1.0, and I've had a great laptop ever since.
I feel rather lucky. :)
I don't get people who avoid important updates. I'd install it just to avoid future problems from forming. My MacBook runs fine with the update, and the fans are coming on less often as well which is appreciated.
Isn't everyone assuming here that the root problem is a heatsink issue? Has Apple ever announced that it was? Perhaps it isn't at all, or that's only part of the equation, and it is in fact an SMC control problem. There's a lot of FUD here - people saying they've had extra screws drilled in their MacBooks which is total BS.
I wouldn't try second-guessing Apple engineers. If they've released an update recommended to make the MacBook more reliable, I say use it.
Absolutely. I'm a bit surprised at all the misinformation (nobody is drilling a friggin' screw in your MacBooks, people).

Well, going on national TV and basically challenging the hacker community doesn't really qualify as obscure, now does it?
People keep mentioning this.. does anyone have a link to the add that specifically challenges hackers?

As long as I can turn it off, I don't care. I can see few reasons why 3D would be useful to me in a tablet, but then the iPhone is full of tech that seemed gimmicky to start and was eventually put to good use by innovative devs. It'll take a while before it gets refined enough to be of value, but gotta start sometime.

Apple claims that for the ibook 12" the range is 6C519 - 6C552
The macrumors says: 6C510 through 6C626
which is the correct? Why apple changed it?
Thank you for that. Bad links running around.

Yeppers. The Beatles were a great musical group. Innovative. They changed the music of the times. They began as pop and morphed into serious musicians with unique sounds. The White album was a landmark album. I wonder what the analysis will be in one hundred years? Bach=like? Probably....

I hope Apple releases a OSX update that enables that feature on my MBP... like the two finger click.
I cant believe they would put an extra feature on a consumer machine and leave out all us pro users!! :D
